Outdoor Lighting: Next Generation LED Technology

The future of outdoor lighting is, well, bright! LED has ensured that this is the case. LEDs only consume between 4 and 13 watts, and only between 9 and 12 volts of actual electricity. But there are many other reasons why LED is the next generation of outdoor lighting. They last a long time, are good for the environment, save you money and are safer to use in multiple ways.

LEDs are Long Lasting

Outdoor lighting with LEDs in it will last many times longer than other conventional lighting solutions. In fact, some fixtures may be rated to last upwards of over 40,000 hours! They are very durable and difficult to break, especially comparison with incandescent and CFL (compact fluorescent lamp) bulbs which are made of thin, very easily-breakable glass.

CFLs also contain toxic mercury which creates a potential hazard if broken. This is not the case with LED based outdoor lighting. Next generation fixtures may in some cases feature multiple LEDs per unit in order to create brightness levels comparable to other light bulbs.

LEDs are Energy Efficient

Energy efficient outdoor lighting is so important today, and LED is an excellent choice when it comes to energy-efficiency. Most LED products are Energy Star rated which means that they have been officially marked by a government-backed logo for their low energy consumption. This makes them better for the environment. But it also saves consumers and businesses a lot on energy bills.

It is our duty to take care of the planet and the children of today who will have to manage the world of tomorrow. Let's make that a better day for them by choosing energy-efficient products and participating in as many other "green" initiatives as possible. Opting for LEDs and other Energy Star rated products is a great start.

LEDs are "Rapid Start"

Another advantage of LED that makes it superior to other energy efficient technologies - and makes it more likely to outlast them in the next generation of outdoor lighting - is a simple feature called "Rapid Start." They illuminate with essentially no delay when they are switched on. Many other energy efficient outdoor lighting solutions like CFLs may be delayed, sometimes enough to be an annoyance or create difficulty.

LEDs have Low Heat Emissions

One of the often overlooked benefits of light emitting diodes is the fact that they do not emit as much heat in contrast with competing light technologies. The feature of low heat emissions is relevant because too much heat can melt lighting fixtures and could even create a fire hazard. LED technology is safer to use in your outdoor and indoor lighting fixtures because of the fact that it does not suffer from this issue.
